The first woodturning offerings of Chagrin Valley Soap and Craft are
hand-turned wine bottle stoppers. Each bottle stopper is turned from
exotic or domestic woods, with a washable ribbed silicone stopper to
insure a tight seal, and finished to a high gloss with a shellac and wax
compound.
The
exotic woods used for the wine bottle stoppers are plantation grown, or
come from sustainable managed forests; none come from endangered rain
forest trees. By carefully
selecting our sources for wood, we protect our endangered rain
forests and biodiversity, and respect the rights of indigenous people.
The exotic woods come from all over the world:
Africa, South America, Mexico, Australia, Hawaii and Asia. These
"exotics" include Bubinga, African Blackwood, Ebony, Padauk, Pink
Ivory, Bocote, Ziricote, Purpleheart, Tulipwood, Kingwood, Chechen,
Hawaiian Koa, and Canarywood. |

The design of each bottle stopper evolves
as I turn it, and is the result of my inspiration at the moment.
No two wine bottle stoppers are the same. Sometimes the grain or color of
the wood dictates the final shape to best display the features of
the wood. If you have a favorite shape and a favorite wood, I
will be happy to custom turn a bottle stopper for you with your
specifications or design. |
